Experience enhanced active learning through a tailor-made digital game
Mobile Learning

Mobility is an opportunity to reinvent your training

With cell phones now an integral part of daily life, mobile devices have transformed into powerful tools for more than just entertainment—they’re vital for learning, education, and professional training. The widespread use of smartphones and the growth of mobile gaming have paved the way for interactive, gamified learning.

Recognising this shift, Emeraude Escape uses mobile technology to reinvent training through custom digital games and virtual escape rooms. These mobile-friendly experiences make training more accessible, engaging, and impactful, providing employees with a flexible, effective learning solution.

The benefits of mobile learning

DiorRouge Microlearning

A definition of mobile learning

In 2012, the Unesco was defining mobile learning as “an education which involves the use of mobile devices to ensure learning at any time and in any place.

It focuses on the learning opportunities offered by the mobility inherent in tools and devices like smartphones and tablets. The objective of mobile learning is to provide learners with quick and easy access to resources that are both comprehensive and useful. Time and place constraints are put away in exchange for a flexible and spontaneous learning.

Mobile learning often pairs with microlearning format. It takes the learner’s situation into account, such as when they have only a few minutes (e.g., during transitions or while on the move). This allows for capturing their attention and offering a feasible, accessible objective within the available time. Through microlearning integration, you can achieve higher user engagement, a better completion rate, and reach a more diverse audience of learners.

Contrary to what many would think, this type of learning is not less efficient. Our mobile learning game can be developed in an adaptive learning format, where technology enables precise tracking of each learner’s progress and allows for adjustments based on their individual needs. This type of Mobile learning provides a personalised training experience.

Creative Gamification Agency - Middle East

Mobile learning is centred around the ATWAD (AnyTime, AnyWhere, AnyDevice) concept, allowing learners to access training anytime, anywhere, on any device. This flexibility provides freedom and comfort.

It blends formal and informal learning by offering structured content and practical resources while integrating learning into daily contexts, such as using a mobile phone. The mobile format also supports social interaction and communication, making training intuitive and engaging. With quick feedback, easy repetition, and enhanced learner engagement, mobile learning helps improve retention and information recall.

The Advantages of Mobile Learning for Corporate Training

Mobile learning offers a wide range of advantages for companies, brands and their employees. Here are some key benefits:

Cost-effectiveness:
Mobile learning reduces costs by eliminating travel, printed materials, physical activities, and in-person sessions, while enabling scalable training for large teams without extra expenses.

Flexibility:
Mobile learning allows learners to engage with training materials at their own pace and on their own schedule, making it easier to balance work and learning for a more personalised experience.

Accessibility:
Mobile learning provides universal accessibility for employees at home, in the field, or on the go. Its ATAWAD approach suits all generations and is available in multiple languages, making it ideal for global teams.

Personalisation:
Adaptive learning technologies in mobile learning customise content and pacing based on each learner’s progress, ensuring relevant, engaging, and personalised training that enhances outcomes.

Tracking:
Mobile learning is designed to collect data on learners’ progress, allowing for continuous tracking and analysis. This enables organisations to monitor performance, identify areas for improvement, and adjust learning strategies to optimise outcomes.

Collaborative:
Mobile learning tools foster smooth communication and social interaction, making shared, collective learning more engaging. By enhancing peer learning and enabling immediate feedback, they facilitate collaboration and create a stimulating learning environment.

Microlearning—DiversityAndInclusion

While mobile learning offers many advantages, it’s important to recognise that it may not suit every training need. Two key considerations should be addressed:

1. Is it the best training format?
Not all topics are suitable for mobile learning. Some require more in-depth engagement or longer timeframes than a mobile device can provide. For complex, new processes, a Serious Game might be a better fit. However, for topics learners are already familiar with or need to rehearse, mobile learning is ideal.

2. Has the format been designed properly?
To ensure uninterrupted access, the platform should be built with offline functionality and optimized for all mobile devices. This enables learners to download content when connected and continue using it anywhere, even with limited or no internet. Broad device compatibility also ensures inclusivity, allowing all users to access learning resources anytime, regardless of their device or location.

4 Main Tips to Train Your Team using Mobile Learning

1. Mobile first:
The mobile format is not a mere responsive adaptation for mobile phones. On the contrary, it is designed from the outset as a training program tailored for smartphones, with an offline mode, adapted visuals, and audio based on your employees’ habits.

2. Storytelling:
While the mobile format doesn’t eliminate the use of storytelling or a thematic framework, it requires careful planning. A logical sequence of small, custom-branded modules around a scenario boosts engagement and aids in better information retention.

3. Collaboration:
Strategically choose media integration, such as player modes, chats, podcasts, and videos, to deliver your learning materials. This approach not only facilitates social interaction but also encourages collaboration, making the learning experience more dynamic and exciting.

4. Content adaptation:
Mobile learning is best paired with microlearning. The learning content should be carefully curated in the most simple way possible to fit in sessions going from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Focus on the essential information, our learning designers will make sure the game is enjoyable and engaging.

The demand for mobile learning has been steadily increasing, driven by the rise of flexible work environments, the need for continuous employee development, and the growth of mobile technology. A report by the eLearning centre notes that mobile learning is becoming a key tool for training and upskilling employees, especially with the increasing importance of lifelong learning in the modern workforce.

Top trends in Mobile Learning Games

1. Media Integration in Mobile Learning
Mobile learning is enriched through the integration of various media types, such as audio content (e.g., podcasts), videos, animations, and tutorials. These multimedia elements provide an immersive experience, supporting diverse learning preferences and making the content more engaging. By incorporating these elements into training modules, mobile learning becomes more interactive, allowing learners to better retain information while also providing different formats to cater to various learning styles.

2. The Role of Gamification in Mobile Learning
Gamification has become a powerful tool to enhance user engagement in mobile learning environments. By integrating game-like features such as points, levels, leaderboards, and instant feedback, learners are motivated to progress through training modules in a fun and competitive way. This not only improves knowledge retention but also encourages learners to return to the platform, driving consistent participation. Additionally, gamification fosters a sense of accomplishment and progress, making the learning journey feel more rewarding and reinforcing positive learning habits over time.

3. Pairing Mobile Learning and Microlearning
Microlearning delivers short, focused sessions that target specific objectives, such as mastering one task or concept. Often paired with mobile learning, it leverages smartphones for easy, on-the-go access to bite-sized content. Sessions typically last 3-5 minutes, ensuring high retention through repetition and familiarity. Microlearning meets the immediate needs of field employees, providing quick answers and easy access to information. This approach enhances engagement and improves retention by offering condensed, accessible learning that’s easy to revisit.

4. Enhancing Classroom Training with Mobile Learning Integration
Mobile learning can complement traditional classroom training by allowing learners to participate in interactive elements like quizzes, polls, and feedback through mobile devices while physically present in the session. This integration creates a more dynamic and engaging learning environment, encouraging active participation and real-time interaction during the training. It blends in-person learning with the flexibility of mobile technology, fostering better engagement and knowledge retention.
